Privacy Policy

Last Updated: October 28, 2025

Our Commitment to Privacy

Loki is built on a foundation of transparency and user control. We believe your data belongs to you, and our mission is to help you understand its value while keeping you completely anonymous. This privacy policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and how we protect your privacy.

What Data We Collect

Anonymous User ID

When you install Loki, we generate a cryptographically hashed anonymous user ID using SHA-256. This ID cannot be reversed or linked to your identity. It's used solely to aggregate your browsing data for media value calculations.

Publisher Information (Domain Only)

We collect the domain name of websites you visit (e.g., "bloomberg.com"), but NOT the specific URLs or page content. We sanitize all URLs to remove paths, query parameters, and any identifying information.

Ad Slot Technical Specifications

Loki detects ad slots on web pages and collects technical information including:

  • Ad slot dimensions (width, height)
  • Ad slot position on page (above/below fold)
  • Ad type (display, video, native)
  • Detected ad tech scripts (e.g., Google AdSense, DoubleClick)
  • Creative formats supported (jpg, png, html5)

Timestamps (Rounded)

We record timestamps rounded to the nearest hour (not exact times) to reduce precision and enhance privacy. This allows us to analyze trends without tracking your specific browsing schedule.

Browser Metadata

We collect basic browser information (browser type, viewport size) to ensure proper ad detection and calculation accuracy. This data is aggregated and never linked to your identity.

What We DO NOT Collect

  • Your browsing history - We never track specific pages you visit
  • Personal information - No names, emails, phone numbers, or addresses
  • Search queries - We don't track what you search for
  • Form data - We never capture passwords, credit cards, or form inputs
  • Page content - We don't read article text, images, or videos
  • Cookies or tracking pixels - Loki doesn't use cookies or third-party trackers
  • IP addresses - We don't log or store your IP address

How We Use Your Data

Hide Me Mode (Ad Blocking)

In Hide Me mode, Loki blocks ad network requests and hides ad slots on web pages. We collect anonymous ad slot specifications to improve our ad detection algorithms and contribute to a crowdsourced database of publisher inventory.

Monetize Me Mode (Media Value Calculation)

In Monetize Me mode, Loki analyzes your aggregated browsing data to calculate an estimated monetary value based on industry CPM (Cost Per Mille) rates. This calculation is performed using AWS Bedrock AI and industry benchmarks. The result shows you what advertisers would theoretically pay for your attention.

Publisher Inventory Intelligence

Anonymous ad slot data is aggregated across all Loki users to build a comprehensive database of publisher ad inventory. This data helps us understand the advertising landscape and may be used in future features to help users monetize their own data.

Data Storage & Security

All data collected by Loki is stored securely in AWS DynamoDB (US East region) with industry-standard encryption at rest and in transit. We implement the following security measures:

  • SHA-256 hashing for user IDs (irreversible)
  • URL sanitization to remove sensitive path data
  • Timestamp rounding to reduce temporal precision
  • Data minimization - we only collect what's necessary
  • 90-day retention for user browsing data (auto-deleted after)

Data Sharing & Third Parties

We do NOT sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties for advertising or marketing purposes.

We may share aggregated, anonymized data (e.g., "30% of users visit finance websites") for research or industry reports, but this data cannot be traced back to individual users.

Third-party services we use:

  • AWS (Amazon Web Services) - Data storage and processing
  • Google Fonts - Font delivery for the website

Your Rights & Control

You have the right to:

  • Switch modes anytime - Toggle between Hide Me and Monetize Me modes instantly
  • Disable the extension - Turn off Loki completely from the popup
  • Uninstall - Remove the extension at any time
  • Request data deletion - Email us at hello@useloki.app to delete your data
  • Opt out of data collection - Use Hide Me mode only, or disable the extension

Children's Privacy

Loki is not intended for children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with data, please contact us at hello@useloki.app and we will delete it immediately.

Open Source & Transparency

Loki is committed to transparency. Our code will be open-sourced (coming soon at https://github.com/useloki/app) so you can verify exactly what data we collect and how we use it. We believe in radical transparency for privacy-focused tools.
